GENERAL INFORMATION

The Woodworkers Training Program is a vocational training program that prepares participants for a wide range of skilled occupations in the wood products and solid surface manufacturing industry. Since 1993, the program has graduated 892 trainees (as of August 9, 2019). Through GWTP placement services, graduates have gone into full time, training-related, non-subsidized employment. Created as a Community-Business Partnership, the program simultaneously meets the needs of community residents while developing a skilled workforce for the local woodworking industry. 


The Wood Products Manufacturing Program provides 450 hours of hands-on shop (60%) and classroom (40%) instruction including: 

· Hands-on cabinet and furniture making skills 

· Machine set-up, safety, and operation 

· CNC Machining center set-up and operation 

· Blueprint reading and shop math 

· Solid surface fabrication 

· Plastic lamination and veneering 

· Sanding and preparation for finishing 

· Precision measuring skills 

· Pre-employment training 

· Vocational English and reading 

· Vocational math and precision measuring 

· Manufacturing career development 

· Hand Tool OSHA 10-hour General Industry Card 

· Forklift safety and operation 


After 15 weeks, graduates are highly qualified to work as a cabinetmaker apprentice, bench carpenter, machine operator, CNC operator, assembler, or solid surface counter fabricator. Discover your career in a growing industry and call today!
